Day 128: Immanuel (May 8)

This name of God is another favorite.  Immanuel means: God with us.  I speak this name often.  I love to be reminded that He is ever present in my life.

Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign:  The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel.  Isaiah 7:14

Jesus Christ, Immanuel.

Sometimes, we have trouble realizing that God walks with us and is ever-present.  If doubt ever creeps into your heart or mind, speak the name Immanuel.  Immanuel, God with us.  That leaves no doubt.

Where can we go from His Presence?  Nowhere.  Immanuel is God with us.

Am I sounding redundant?  Well, I’m trying to drive home an obvious but often forgotten point.  He is with you every second.  He is in every moment of your life.  There is no place you can hide from His Presence.  There is no place you could go that He would not follow.  Even scripture drives home this point:
Where can I go from Your Spirit?  Where can I flee from Your Presence?  If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in the depths, You are there.  If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will hold me fast.  If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me.” Even the darkness will not be dark to You; the night will shine like the day, for the darkness is as light to You.  Psalm 139:7-12

There is no place you can go to escape Him.  There is nothing You could do to stop Him from loving you.  There are some things that are so definite.  In a world of “gray”, there is none in God.  He is God with us.  He is love.  He is Alpha and Omega.  These things cannot and will not ever change.  Even if we were to re-write history, we could never remove His fingerprint from the fabric of time.  Even our time represents the life of Jesus, since it’s still based on A.D. and B.C.

No, His presence on the earth cannot be removed by any man or power of darkness.  He has defeated even death, so He could be closer to you.  There is nothing He hasn’t done to draw near to you, to be Immanuel.  He truly lives up to His name.

Thank You Immanuel.  Thank You for never leaving or forsaking me.  Through every season of my life, one thing has remained constant, and that is You.  You alone are the ever present and never changing Presence in my life.  Thank You for loving me so much, You laid down Your life.  Let my heart echo gratitude throughout the heavens.  Let my life be a living sacrifice of love to You. You are all I need.  In Jesus name, amen.

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Psalm 46:1
