Deeper Day 84: The Sound of Silence

This morning as I sit outside and drink a hot cup of tea while spending time in God’s presence, I am in awe of the sounds around me.  I hear birds, of many different kinds, chirping around me like a little chorus in this symphony of nature.  As the wind blows, I see the tall grasses sway back and forth like a woodwind section.  Even the cars I hear in the distance are like my own percussion section.  All the sounds that surround my little corner of the world are so delightful.  I wouldn’t trade it for a thing.

As much of the world is in one type of quarantine or another right now, I realize that I love the stillness, I always have.  I love having the uninterrupted time to seek His face.  I enjoy sitting and staring out into the woods while I listen for His voice.  I enjoy observing the sunrise and sunset and being overcome with the beauty He provides from my doorstep.  He loves to show off for those who will pay attention, for those who will seek Him.  He loves those who seek, and we are promised that if we do, we will find Him.

The Bible even confirms it:

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.  I will be found by you.             Jeremiah 29:13-14

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.  For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.  Matthew 7:7-8

Maybe you’re wondering, “What do you find when you seek Him?”  Friend, I find a treasure trove.  When I seek Him, I find peace that surpasses all things, I find compassion and a renewed perspective of life.  I find myself grasping a heavenly understanding of earthly things.  Are you ready to seek Him too?

Prayer Moment:  Undoubtedly right now you have more free time.  What a gift!  Today, use some of that time to seek God’s face.  Ask Him to reveal Himself to you both now and throughout your day.  Are you beginning to hear the tempo of heaven over your heart?  Great!  Now lay down all your previous expectations for this day and all comparison with others and engage that tempo.  I promise, joy will be found in doing so.  Joy and contentment.

Today I leave you with a portion of scripture that I think is beautiful.  As you take in its beauty, let it lead you to find the beauty of this day within your home.

Yet I am always with You; You hold me by my right hand.  You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will take me into glory.  Whom have I in heaven but You?  And earth has nothing I desire besides You.  My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.  Those who are far from You will perish; You destroy all who are unfaithful to You.  But as for me, it is good to be near God.  I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge; I will tell of all Your deeds.  Psalm 73:23-28
