Deeper Day 185: Turn the Tide

It’s time to turn the tide. It’s time to remember who we are and to be who we are called to be.

Years ago, when I was learning a lot about spiritual warfare, I discovered that you fight a negative spirit by coming at it with the opposite spirit. For example, you fight fear with faith, and you fight poverty spirit with an abundant heart. You fight anger with joy. The list could go on and on.

I believe that if the church (universal) would stop partnering with the fear, guilt, rage, etc. and instead stand as beacons of light with joy, thanksgiving, praise and abundance while unapologetically following God’s word, then we would see the tide begin to turn. All the enemy’s fear tactics are on full display right now, and a shocking number of longtime believers seem to be responding to them. I don’t understand it, but I know it’s happening. When you hear a report that makes you feel fear, you have an opportunity. You can choose to partner with that fear, or you can choose to press into the truth and find the peace in each moment.

I believe in any situation we will see things shift if we simply practice this. Let’s say you go to work, and everyone is grumbling and complaining about the boss. When you begin to complain too, you are partnering with that spirit. We all know the Bible says to “Do all things without grumbling and complaining, as if you are doing them for the Lord.” Why is it so hard? Largely, it is because we have allowed the fear of man to be more deeply rooted within us than the fear of the Lord (which is also called the beginning of wisdom).

No matter what you face this week, I encourage you to meet the negative with the opposite spirit and watch how it begins to shift your world, starting with you. That’s right, the first one to be changed by meeting the enemy with the opposite spirit, will be your own heart. That’s such good news.

Prayer Moment: God, I ask that You would teach us all how to partner with Your spirit and not the spirit of the world. When we come across a negative spirit, I pray that immediately You would show us the spirit You would have us come against it with. Infuse us with hearts of gratitude, abundance and grace. Teach us how to spread Your kingdom here on earth. In Jesus name, Amen.

Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds His people both now and forevermore. The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil. Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, to those who are upright in heart. But those who turn to crooked ways the Lord will banish with the evildoers. Peace be upon Israel. Psalm 125
