My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline and do not resent His rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those He loves, as a father the son he delights in. Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed. By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding He set the heavens in place; by His knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew. My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble; when you lie down you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared. Proverbs 3:11-26
In the age of information overload, I believe it is supremely important to constantly remind myself where true wisdom comes from. Information does not equal wisdom. Remaining informed does not equal any sort of understanding. Wisdom and understanding are best used in tandem. The verses above highlight these principles.
By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding He set the heavens in place; by His knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew.
Wow. God is amazing. When we understand just how great He is and how sovereign He is, why would we want to find wisdom or understanding from any other source? The scripture further describes wisdom as this…
Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed.
When we walk in wisdom, we walk in peace…no matter what. We are blessed when we hold onto wisdom. These truths are so very powerful.
When you need to know what is true, ask Him. When you can’t understand something, press into His heart. He is the only reliable source. He is the only One Who is not influenced by anything or anyone. His thoughts are so far beyond ours that nothing can sway them in one direction or another.
Now is the time to fall back into full reverence of Who our God truly is.
Prayer Moment: God, You alone know the beginning and the end. Help me to trust You. Help me to get my news from You alone. Hold my heart close so that it is not lead astray. You are my God. You are the One I can count on. Speak wisdom and understanding to my heart. In Jesus name, Amen.
