Today I am thinking about this Psalm
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely, goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23
I believe that in this Psalm we are promised that no matter what we are walking through, He leads us beside quiet waters. I truly do believe that no matter what we are going through or what is happening to those around us we can lean on Him and discover those peaceful waters. The only thing that is really required is to purposefully receive the peace and to bring all your emotion to the Father.
When you chose to walk by the quiet waters, you are choosing to bring all the fear and pain of the world to our heavenly Father and trusting Him to handle what you can’t.
God has been showing me that we must continually be self-aware to know when we are having trouble releasing fear. He is also showing me that a lot of the anxiety we struggle with is because we have begun to carry the weight of problems that we’re not meant to carry. Every single time that we begin to pick up what wasn’t meant to be carried by us, we “throw our backs out” and there is an immediate feeling of pain and panic inside. Does that make sense? We can’t walk with a weight we were never meant to carry.
So, what do we do?
Cast all your cares upon Him; for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
Our Father is always right there with you, waiting to carry your burdens. In fact, beginning to bring it all to Him will be the beginning of a more intimate relationship with Him. He longs for that. He loves you.
Prayer Moment: God, forgive me for every time that I have carried troubles that I wasn’t meant to carry. I surrender all my cares to You now. Please convict my heart every time I try to lift more than I should. Help me to be so self-aware that I immediately know when I’m moving in my own strength. I long to be nearer to Your heart. I love you so. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
