Another word that God whispered in my ear, was preeminently…
Preeminently: above all; in particular
I felt Him saying, “What is preeminently important right now?” That rang through my spirit like a bell. The deep sound of a large bell with a pull chord. With the world full of distractions and noisiness it can be easy to lose sight of the main things.
The preeminent things in my life are my walk with God, my marriage, and my children. If I base all my decisions and prioritize my time and emotional energy with these top 3 in mind, then things are far less likely to spin out of control.
Daily when I decide how my time is spent, I visit these things and weigh everything against them. Is doing a certain activity going to drain me so much that I won’t have anything left to give my family in the evening? Is a certain stand I want to take, going to conflict with my walk with God and ministry that He’s placed me in? Will a certain relationship with a friend draw me further from my husband or does it encourage me to draw nearer to him? These are all valid and important questions. We are responsible for maintaining the relationships God has placed in our lives, especially family relationships.
When weighing political candidates what is preeminent?
Well honestly, I don’t vote for personality, I vote on principle. If a candidate stands for abortion, I am not voting for them. That is a first and foremost deal breaker for me, because if a person doesn’t value the unborn then how can they value anything else in proper perspective? Also, I have a personal past, and so do ALL candidates, what I’m more interested in, is what they are like right now. I believe in the redeeming power of Christ, and that doesn’t all of the sudden stop mattering when it comes to politics. I also look at the family that surrounds them. What are their kids like? Are they honest and hard working or entitled and troubled? This all begins to give me a clear picture of the heart health of the person, and that is SO important. I don’t make decisions based on what the media tells me, rather I look at record and family and listen to God above all. He is never wrong. He has without fail shown me which direction to go in every election, whether local or national. It’s important to partner with Him in this too.
Prayer Moment: God, I ask You to be preeminent in my life. Help me to always have focus and not be distracted by the illusions the world contrives. Give me a heart that knows. Help me to grow in wisdom and understanding. I give myself to You, completely. Teach me Your ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Deuteronomy 6:5
