I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge- that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:16-19
We are to be rooted and established (grounded) in love. This thought dances through my mind a lot. I root myself to receive the power to grasp God’s love (as the scripture above states)…Power comes from grasping the enormity of God’s love for us, and it leads to all the fullness of God.
As I stretch into the day, I consider this. Sometimes, I will kick off my shoes and let my feet fully feel the ground beneath me and I imagine myself being rooted and grounded in love. God is love, so when I root myself in love, I am rooting myself in Him.
Oftentimes, I feel God intensely when I am outside, not a building in sight. Only the trees and flowers surround me. Watching birds and butterflies skirt through the sky. Looking out at the horizon. Noticing the clouds in the sky. Admiring the many shades of every color. There is a stillness in the bustle of nature. There is a knowing. A knowing that God is God. I become acutely aware of His magnitude when I gaze upon His handiwork. It’s a feast for my eyes and I’m so hungry that I gobble it up. Oh, the beauty of this place. And just imagine, Heaven is so much more beautiful!
Look! There He is. The butterfly that keeps flitting so close to your shoulder. Can you feel His presence as you watch it fly? He has promised to meet us when we seek after Him with our whole heart. I just love it when He uses something like a bird, dragonfly or butterfly to remind me of His presence. Like a kiss from Heaven He comes, just hoping we notice Him.
Stop today and kick off your shoes for a moment. Let yourself feel. I love the way the rug in our living room tickles the bottoms of my feet. I rub my feet on it and allow myself to simply feel. I love walking outside and letting my feet feel the ground underneath. It’s almost as if it has a heartbeat. It like you can feel the roots of everything under the ground, growing and stretching deeper. Or maybe that’s just God reminding us that He is alive. The Giver of life creates all living things. The Heavens declare His glory, the earth and everything in it.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. Doesn’t that just stir you heart?! I don’t know how I could ever read that and not be in awe of His glorious splendor. As you enter this day, hold onto this perspective and I guarantee you will find God in many places!!
