This week has been hard…for us personally. Yes, there’s been a lot happening in the world around us, but it has also been happening to our household. The deluge of enemy attack has been at a fever pitch. When we feel this type of intensity, we have a choice…will we avoid it or will we sit in it and allow the Lord to teach us? When emotions roil up and you feel the deepest things…those are the moments when you know breakthrough is eminent.
But it’s what boiled up from the bottom of my soul that shocked me…I felt forsaken. Yes, as I lamented the attacks we’ve been under, and the fierceness of the enemies focus upon us that I don’t understand…it’s been going on for so long in certain areas that I felt forsaken.
Jesus knows what that is like…my ever faithful Brother is never short on empathy. He ALWAYS knows exactly what I feel, because He’s felt it and even worse.
“My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” Mark 15:34b
When it finally came out of my mouth that I felt forsaken, then all the tears could come. There was no more hiding, no more trying to be strong and good…I was laid bare and all I had left was tears and worship. I spent hours at the piano. Hours bringing God the most powerful worship. Our worship during sorrow is a special offering we can only give while living on the earth. When we worship Him in Heaven, we will have no more sorrow or tears…so we may as well, leave it all down here. All the disappointment, all the fear, all the pain…this is the sweetest offering.
As I worshiped it out, I finally worked my way back to the promise…
Remember Your promise to me; it is my only hope. Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles. Psalm 119:49-50
There are some irrefutable promises that God has made to us. These are things that we’ve known He will do, even when it looks impossible. These are things that others bear witness to, agree they will come to pass. They are solid. They will happen. I believe it with every fiber of my being…even on the hard weeks. I live in the hope of the Promise…
We have promises of things to come while we are on this earth…and we have the Promise…Jesus…Who is our Savior.
What more do we need? We have everything when we have Jesus. It’s His great pleasure to lavish His love upon us. He has storehouses of blessings for us…it’s His pleasure to lavish us with blessing.
The Lord will open to you His good treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. And you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you shall only go up and not down. Deuteronomy 28:12-13a
We lay hold of these promises God. Thank You for Your love.
