The Fountain Day 256: Giving

As many of us observe the economy, face job challenges, are coming off of seasons of lack, and other types of financial challenges…we must remember the way to the increase is through giving.

It can be really hard to stay consistent with giving when you know it will make finances tight or even a little short, but in my experience, this is exactly when you should give.  God blesses a giver.  I truly believe that one reason our family has been able to weather this financial storm is because we gave throughout it.  Even when we had no paycheck, we kept up with our extra giving.  It’s a non-negotiable in our lives.  I may not understand many of the things happening in life right now, but I do understand the principle of sowing and reaping…and giving and it will be given to you.

No matter what, we can all give something, even if it’s not money.  We can give time.  We can give prayer.  We can give worship.  We can disciple.  There is no end of options for giving.

Whatever you have…give.

Remember this- a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop.  But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.  You must each decide in your heart how much to give.  And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure.  “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”  And God will generously provide all you need.  Then you will always have everything you need, and plenty left over to share with others.  As the Scriptures say, “They share freely and give generously to the poor.  Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”  For God is the One Who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat.  In the same way, He will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.  Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous.  And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.  So, two good things will result from this ministry of giving- the needs of the believers in Jerusalem will be met, and they will joyfully express their thanks to God.  2 Corinthians 9:12

In every season I learn more and more about pouring out all of myself.  Whether in plenty or in want, I have things to offer the world…so I offer them.  I don’t need anyone’s endorsement.  I only need God to lead me.  God shows me where to go and what to do.  He prompts me to give.  Whether I’m feeding people, leading worship, writing devotionals, teaching, praying, listening, empathizing, sharing finances or sharing wisdom…I continue to give.  And I do this knowing the promise that one day…one fine day…I will reap a harvest!

We are all headed toward a harvest.  What we are sowing will decide what we harvest, just like scripture said.

You better believe that I will sow the very best that I have at any given moment.  I am bound and determined to have a radically wonderful harvest of joy!!!

“Come now, let’s settle this,” says the Lord.  “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow.  Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.  If you will only obey Me, you will have plenty to eat.  Isaiah 1:18-19
