Today I was spending some time with God and was thinking about the prayers I used to pray. I was thinking about how weary I’ve grown in some of my prayers, because after many years they still seem unanswered.
Don’t get me wrong, I pray daily. About all kinds of things. But you know that sometimes we all get weary of praying for the same things over and over. It can sometimes feel like nagging. So we give it a rest for a bit, but when we take a break from them we often forget. It’s so easy to forget.
Today I saw myself sewing a large tapestry. The scene couldn’t yet be discerned but I could tell it was a lifelong tapestry. Then I noticed that each stitch I made was a prayer I prayed. When I stopped praying, the tapestry was left unfinished. When I began again, it was making progress. Each stitch was from another prayer. It was a work of art.
Then I realized what beauty God finds in the tapestry of my prayers. But I also saw the sadness from all the tapestry’s that others have left undone. I told God, “If my life is cut short, please let me hand over my needle and thread to my daughters and my sons. That would be true legacy. That would be an honor.”
We each have one of these tapestries.
Our lives are meant to be lived in constant prayer.
Pray without ceasing, scripture tells us. I believe it. I do it.
This entire encounter with God makes me even more determined to rediscover all the things I’ve forgotten to keep praying about. It also provokes me to search out more things to intercede for. It’s all a worthy work. A worthy process. A holy exchange.
Today I encourage you to revisit your tapestry. Pick up your needle and thread and begin sewing in prayer again. It’s not too late. Search your heart for anything God places within you to pray. Be bold. Be brave. Be relentless. Be grateful. Remember that each of your prayers is a beautiful stitch in the tapestry of your lifetime. What a beautiful picture.
Worthy is the Lamb. So worthy. Only a kind Father would give us such opportunities to partner with Him.
I want you to know how hard I am contending for you and those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally. My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in Whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
