Resurrection Day 167: Let God Speak

The Lord wasn’t in the storm or the earthquake, He was in the stillness.  Remember this story about Elijah in the cave?

We’ve talked about it before, but I’m drawn to it again today.

If God is in the stillness, then why do we talk so much?  If His voice is a still, small voice then how can we hear it if we’re talking and, in the noise, so much?

We must find stillness in our lives if we are to actively hear God speak.  We must find a refuge from distractions if we are to know His heart.

I believe that we often choose distraction.  It’s become a god of this age.  It numbs and helps people to not need to deal with issues in their lives.

Unfortunately, in this age of technology, we must fight to have quiet.

Being still is becoming a lost art for most of us.

It’s not too late.

Today I encourage you to get away and rediscover that still, small voice.  The One you’ve been hearing since you were being formed in your mother’s womb.  Press past the discomfort and awkwardness and reconnect with God.

Maybe you’ve never heard Him speak…then invite Him to come and speak to you in a way that you can hear.  Maybe it’s a thought.  Maybe it’s a smell that evokes a memory.  Maybe it’s a warm feeling that lets you know He is near.  Whatever way He chooses, receive it.

Be still and know.

When lies are so present on the earth and even within the church, we must learn to hear God for ourselves.  We don’t need a priest or pastor or prophet to hear for us.  Sure, they can be helpful, but what if you find yourself in need and nobody else is around?  We need to know His voice.

Some people say to me that they don’t believe we need to hear God, but to them I would say…

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.”  John 10:27

Ears to hear and eyes that see- the Lord has made them both.  Proverbs 20:12

He says, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”  Psalm 46:10

To answer before listening- that is folly and shame.  Proverbs 18:13
