When we look to the Lord to establish us and teach us how He desires for us to be successful on this earth…we often find it looks shockingly different than we may have imagined. Further, if we traverse this journey of discovery for very long, then we will inevitably discover how to see through the eyes of legacy.
As a young woman, I had no idea how to even entertain thoughts of the future. I saw today only. I saw today, while carrying the burden and wounds of the past. Then everything changed. God brought me into an intense season of healing and major transformation. Since that transformation, I’ve been layer by layer, having the scales from my eyes removed to the point that now I can see through the eyes of legacy living.
There was a transaction I had with God one day…when I began to come to terms with the fact that I wouldn’t likely live to see everything in my dreams unfold, but that I could pass those things to my children and grandchildren and let them carry on. It was then that I realized I could allow my children to participate in ways I’d never imagined.
It’s a far more fulfilling work when you learn how to share the vision, include those you love, and then multiply things as you allow your dreams to mix with theirs.
Now our children remind us of what we’re living for. They remind me of our dreams when things get muddy. What a blessing and absolute privilege it is to partner with them.
We don’t require our children to participate in our future, but we do invite them. They will each get to choose as they grow up. If they decide not to participate, then I am fully confident God will send others to do so. God is always more than enough.
Allowing them to be privy and participate in our dreams and future has only drawn us closer as a family unit. With a shared vision we have created a sense of purpose in our family. Now they see what we see. They know what we know. It’s the essence of legacy living.
Today I encourage you to lean into whatever legacy living looks like in your life. Whether you’re married or not, you can still move in this direction because God will bring to your life those who you need to carry on the vision. Be bold and brave and lean into God’s heart for your legacy. Ask Him to release the vision over you and then simply believe Him. He Who starts the good thing will complete it in His timing.
Arise, O Lord! Stand against them and bring them to their knees! Rescue me from the wicked with Your sword! By the power of Your hand, O Lord, destroy those who look to this world for their reward. But satisfy the hunger of Your treasured ones. May their children have plenty, leaving an inheritance for their descendants. Because I am righteous, I will see You. When I awake, I will see You face to face and be satisfied. Psalm 17:13-15
