Today I heard the phrase, “I am a melody looking for a harmony”. Immediately I remembered when I was young I loved singing, but never felt good enough to be a lead singer, so I really desired to be a back-up singer. I love singing rich harmonies to accompany a steady melody.
I didn’t realize at the time that God was calling me to lead. I can tell you the moment He spoke that to me, I laughed out loud. I never saw myself as a leader back then. I told God if He wanted me to be a leader, then He would have to make that happen, and He did!
I still find so much pleasure singing harmony with someone who sings out a strong steady melody. It brings me immeasurable joy. But I now know that God had bigger plans for me. He wanted me to be confident in leadership. No, I don’t always have to be leading, but He created me to be a leader.
Now, oftentimes when I am singing worship, my heart, and also ears, are seeking harmony. I can hear it when a person with anointing begins to harmonize with me. It stirs me deep inside. In the deepest of places. Isn’t it ironic that melody and harmony are partners, and I was saying in a previous devo that partnership is my strongest love language right now. In fact, what I’m really searching for is someone to partner in worship with and take turns singing melody and harmony. To let worship dance through and between us.
What does this have to do with you?
Well, what are you anointed to do? Are you created to lead out, or to be a strong support system? How is God moving in that part of your life? Have you given yourself completely to that? It makes me think of the times that God describes us as different parts of a body. Each of us needs to embrace whatever body part God has created us to be. Life will be much more fulfilling and satisfying when you surrender to your calling.
Maybe you don’t know what your calling is yet. That’s ok. If that’s you, then I challenge you to take time today and ask God about it. He will show you if you let Him.
God, I release vision and purpose to the one who is reading this today. I release a glimpse of your calling to come into view right now, in Jesus name. God, I need to know what role you have created me to walk out. Give me purpose and infuse me with Your power in Jesus name. I surrender to Your plan for my life in Jesus name, Amen.
How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity! It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s beard, down upon the collar of his robes. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion. For there the Lord bestows His blessings, even life forevermore. Psalm 133
I will praise You, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of You among the peoples. For great is Your love, reaching to the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let Your glory be over all the earth. Psalm 57:9-11
