Day 211: Being a Gentle Breeze (July 30)

With all the changes that are happening in our lives, I have talked a lot with my kids about how to enter a new place.  I am constantly saying, “When you enter a room and especially when you meet new people, be a gentle breeze.  Don’t be the type of person who sucks up all the oxygen in the room.”

Have you ever been around a person whose spirit seems to gobble up all the oxygen and attention in the room and demands all focus be upon them?  The type of person who cannot let you participate in a conversation with them in any meaningful way because you can tell they only want to compete with you, not listen? Have you ever met someone who is so loud that all eyes are on them merely because they present themselves as a spectacle?

On the other hand, have you been around a person who acts as an invitation?  The type of person who makes you feel welcome.  The person who really listens and makes you feel valued and important.  The person who you know must have a close walk with Jesus because they are so confident that they need not proclaim their presence to everyone just to feel noticed.  Someone who knows the Father sees them, so they don’t really care if the world does?

I strive to be the latter, although I know at times I fail.  Oh, how I long to be that person.

My question today is, “Are you a gentle breeze?”

Do you strive to let Holy Spirit blow into the room as you enter, allowing yourself to be less, that He will be highlighted?  I think it’s normal to struggle with this sometimes.  When I get nervous, sometimes I get louder.  I don’t know exactly why that is, but it’s like I try to break the feeling of nerves with comedy.  Just being honest.

I’m really trying to highlight something that I don’t ever hear people talk about much….Establishing a calm place in your spirit and heading out to embrace the world, and each day with this peace.  Representing the Kingdom with a peaceful confidence.  Walking into a room and offering the one thing the world can’t offer, peace.  Long lasting eternal true peace.

That’s what I call the gentle breeze.

Not that I’ve attained it, but I work toward it bit by bit every day.  Imagine how the world would see Christ, if they first saw you moving in a peaceful and gentle manner throughout your day?  We have an opportunity.  An opportunity to grow as we allow God to cultivate a peaceful spirit within us.

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.  Isaiah 26:3

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.  Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it.  But one thing I do:  Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:12-14

He must become greater; I must become less.  John 3:30
