Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night, that person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither- whatever they do prospers. Psalm 1:1-3
I think about these verses all the time. I often hear the words, “He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither- whatever they do prospers.”
I long to be so full of His Spirit, that I am like that tree.
Since God knew every day I would live before I even breathed one breath, and since He knew all the obstacles I would face, He made available to me all I need. If I am like that tree, then when troubles come, and obstacles present themselves, I can tap into that root system and have all I need. Every single time.
God has provided streams of His Spirit for us to draw from, at all times. He has made Himself ready for us.
Living in PA, I became familiar with maple syrup. It was very common to drive past large wooded areas that were clothed with blue piping, connected to the trees for the maple to be pulled from. I don’t know a lot about the process, but I was told that a cold winter was good for maple production.
Isn’t it also true that in life, when we face seasons of great challenge, we discover a reserve from deep inside. Something we may have never discovered apart from that struggle. It can lead to a great “maple” production. To borrow the analogy again.
It’s hard to know what you’re made of if your never tested. If you never face winter.
But when seasons of challenge come, if you’ve invested in being deeply rooted by His streams, then rest assured, you will make it through.
Investments you make today, can be the very thing that carry you through hard times. Conscious decisions to sit in the Presence of God and to worship Him in Spirit and truth, can be just the thing to keep you tapped into those deep rivers of His Presence.
Take time today, to work on that root system. Tap into the waters that carry Life. Worship Him and let Him fill you up. In His Presence is the fullness of joy.
