Once, when Hannah was around 4 years old, she and I met one of my friends at a restaurant for lunch. While we were there, Hannah told my friend, “Momma’s going to die.” As you can imagine, my friend looked so shocked and immediately met my eyes with question to see if this was in fact true. I was equally shocked and still, to this day, have no idea why Hannah said that. I assured my friend it was nothing. Later I did take it to God though. I asked Him if He was trying to tell me something through my little child. He said, “No,” and comforted me with this verse.
With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation. Psalm 91:16
Over the years since, I have recited those words in my mind anytime something might challenge that statement. On the rare occasion that I get sick, I recite this. When I’ve gone in for medical procedures and face fear, I recite the verse. When we were laid off in November, I reminded myself and I would be satisfied with long life, not living out misery. Banner verses in our lives are so important. Meeting with God over any questions in life, is pivotal. I have been provided with a large and firm foundation because I repeatedly go to God with all feelings, emotions, questions, challenges, etc.
Ironically, this practice of going to God and living from that firm foundation of banner verses and experiences with Him has led to me feeling as if I am indeed living a satisfied life. Isn’t God good?!
Prayer Moment: Today I encourage you to seek out a banner verse. First, go to God with anything pressing that you are experiencing and ask Him to speak to you through His word. Clear your mind of worry and first simply experience His presence. Then open your Bible, while asking Him to lead you to a scripture. Who knows, you may hear one in your mind even before you open the word. If so, make sure to look it up and read it completely to fully receive the blessing, then write it down. Return to it often until it’s engrained upon your heart. Then, you have it as a ready weapon of warfare!! You’ll be so glad you did this!! I’d love to hear from you about what God shows you, or speaks to you through this exercise 😊
If you make the Most High your dwelling- even the Lord, Who is my refuge- then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves Me,” Says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.” Psalm 91:11-16
