Today is Sunday, and I hope you are heading out to join your church family for some corporate worship soon. My soul is stirred today to have you chew on some scripture, so that’s what I’m gonna do.
Your statures are wonderful; therefore, I obey them. The unfolding of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple. I open my mouth and pant, longing for Your commands. Turn to me and have mercy on me, as You always do to those who love Your name. Direct my footsteps according to Your word; let no sin rule over me. Redeem me from the oppression of men, that I may obey Your precepts. Make Your face shine upon Your servant and teach me Your decrees. Psalm 119:129-135
I am enraptured by the beauty of scripture. Every time I read it my soul feels like it’s singing. It has woven into me an unbreakable spirit. I know I’ve mentioned it before, but there are life scriptures that I return to over and over again, and when I do I feel freshly encouraged every time. This is one of the purposes of scripture. If you’ve never asked God to give you specific scripture to hold onto, then now is a really good time to ask. When He gives it to you, make sure you underline it and then write it down in your journal. I’ve even had some of our different family verses made into paintings, so when I walk past them, I remember the promises. This has been an immeasurably encouraging thing to do.
Here is one such verse:
The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest. Though hail flattens the forest and the city is leveled completely, how blessed you will be, sowing your seed by every stream, and letting your cattle and donkeys range free. Isaiah 32:17-20
Because God gave me this scripture as a promise, when tornado weather comes near I am much more calm. Also, when covid began I knew we’d be ok. You see, I use this scripture as an indicator of what provision my family can expect when trials come.
I pray that today you begin to walk this journey of partnering with scripture that God releases over you and your family as promises too. It’s been one of the most important things I’ve ever done.
Prayer Moment: God, I pray that right now You would highlight scripture for whoever reads this devotional. Show them Who You are to their family. Give them hope for the future. Steep them in the truth. Lord, I release a blessing over them all. In Jesus name, Amen.
