This week we are going to go on a journey through Psalm 23. I know I’ve written a devotional about it before, but there is so much to glean from this chapter, so for the next six days we will break it down further and focus on one verse each day.
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not be in want. Psalm 23:1
One reason I felt God nudging me to do this series is because of our desperate need to be tightly tethered to His word of truth right now during these most uncertain times. The world is daily speaking lies over us. If we are not holding onto the truth, then we will struggle to make it through each day.
Consider the first verse as a lifeline…
The first promise of this week is that He is our Shepherd and we will NOT be in want.
No matter what happens, God will provide for those who love Him. He promises this very thing multiple times in scripture. Here’s another reference.
I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. Psalm 37:25
I truly believe these words because I have lived them so many times. Even in the tightest circumstances I have seen God show up. I have received money miraculously more than once. I have received an encouraging word during a desperate time. I have watched God protect even my life in miraculous ways. I’ve seen Him provide for others in ways that cannot be explained through earthly means. He is Jehovah Jireh, God our Provider. You can trust Him.
If you read on to the next verse you will also receive instruction for how we are to conduct ourselves at all times. This behavior, I believe, is one of the major keys for us to continue to live in abundance during all seasons.
They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed. Psalm 37:26
To remain in the blessing, we must continue to be a blessing. Don’t ever forget that. When we feel like things are tight, our first response can often be to withhold, but that’s not at all what kingdom looks like. So, no matter where you may be feeling lack, I encourage you to ask God how you can walk in generosity. It takes many forms and is far easier than you may realize. Also note, that it’s because of our generosity that our children are blessed. This is also mentioned in other places within scripture. When we are generous and righteous, we leave a legacy of Godliness and provision.
Prayer Moment: God, thank You for always providing for me. Please help me to always look for ways to bless other people. Keep me in alignment with Your heart which is always bursting with abundance. I adore You, and I want to represent you well. Forgive me for any time that I have withheld out of fear. Help me to never do that again. Let me be known for my spirit of generosity. Mold me, Abba. I am Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
