Smolder: Burn slowly with smoke but no flame. Smoke coming from a fire that is burning slowly without a flame.
As I process the world around me right now, it’s sometimes hard to not feel anxious. It’s hard to hold onto hope when ALL the media around keeps speaking death to the word of God.
This is a HARD season. It feels like labor. Specifically, it feels like those moments when I had been in labor for many, many hours and I literally felt like maybe the baby would never come. That, however, was nonsense because…one way or another the baby had to come out of me. It would be impossible for the baby to be in my belly forever, but it DID feel like that was an option during those long and exhausting hours.
Friends, this is an hour just like that. God has promised us certain things. All the prophetic voices have been in alignment and my heart and spirit feel the promise. But labor is hard and as days pass, it’s hard to fight discouragement.
While contemplating all this today, I saw smoke all around me. I saw the way you put out a fire is to smother it. You have to cut off the air supply, and that my friends, is exactly what the media and corrupt politicians are attempting to do while we fight. They are trying to smother our hope.
Then I heard the word, “smolder”.
Then I realized that we, the church, have been smoldering. We are a fire that has been burning slow and steady. We haven’t always had a large flame, but we are always burning. But it’s time for us to fan that flame. It’s time to call out to the All-Consuming Fire. It’s time to ask Him to come and set into a wildfire, the smoldering fire of the church. The time is now.
This is also relevant to the dreams and promises we have for our own lives. When they are delayed for any reason, it can feel so discouraging. It can be hard to keep our fire smoldering as we wait. But we MUST take heart. God’s timing is sovereign. He knows what’s best and He knows what all is happening. He sees all the things we cannot see. We must trust Him. Don’t give up!
Prayer Moment: God, thank You for being the One we call Faithful. Right now, I ask for an infusion in my spirit. Another infusion of hope and promise. I know I can trust You. Remove all my fear. Keep me focused on what You ARE doing, not what I want to see you doing. I trust You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for out “God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:29
Because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” Hebrews 13:5b-6
May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead, our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, may He work in us what is pleasing to Him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. Hebrews 13:20-21
