Deeper Day 339: Weary

Weary: Feeling or showing tiredness, especially as a result of excessive exertion or lack of sleep.

I don’t know about you, but I sure have begun to feel weary. Life has been a constant battle for our family, since way before Covid. Then, adding the Covid nonsense has simply escalated all the warring that must be done.

I keep hearing the phrase, “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” And as I hear that, I know we are about to see the light. We are coming through this. There is an end in sight and it’s not death and destruction, it’s the deliverance of the Lord. I release that word here and now. Our Deliverer is coming.

But the real question is, what do we do in our weariness?

Have you ever seen runners in a marathon? You  know, the ones who have never done it before, or who gave more than their all and are losing control of their bodies as they try to make it across the finish line?

When I begin to feel like the weariness has reached it’s point of exhaustion, I MUST find a way to rest.

Rest: 1. Cease work or movement in order to relax, refresh oneself, or recover strength.

That sounds truly relevant, doesn’t it? We must find ways to recover our strength because this battle isn’t over yet. But God knows exactly how much each of us has to offer. He knows how far each of us can go before we are required to find rest. Unfortunately, I know many people who have so lost sight of rest, that their whole lives look like they are flailing around with little control of their faculties because they have needed a rest season for years, but are unwilling to take one.

We MUST learn how to rest.

If we are going to do truly valuable work for the kingdom, then we have to find rest. I don’t know about you, but often when I have a time to rest, my insides are still so amped up that it’s difficult to calm myself into a restful place. It’s hard to lay down a to do list. It’s difficult to stop the spinning of the mind. We have mistakenly found so much value in busyness that, for many, it can feel invalidating and scary to have a respite. But it IS necessary. We must have rest.

Let’s look at the rest of the rest definitions…

Rest: 2. Be placed or supported so as to stay in a specified position. 3. Be based or grounded in; depend on. 4. Conclude the case for the prosecution or the defense in a law case.

These are all such relevant definitions for our time now, aren’t they? Seek rest today. It will be worth it.

Prayer Moment: God, I need some rest. Lead me toward the rest that is beneficial. Stop the swirling of my mind and help me to live life from a place of rest. I want to be grounded upon rest. I long to be solid and unshakeable. Lord, help me to not get caught in the swirl of life. Rather, help me to be tethered to Your solid ground. I am Yours. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from Him. Psalm 62:1

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8
